There is a prison with room for 20 prisoners in custody in Hamburg (“Abschiebegewahrsam”). Five of these are reserved for refugees from the county of Schleswig Holstein. In the year 2017 a total of 31 persons were imprisoned in Hamburg. It is planned to reconstruct the prison in order to establish “normal” room for 20 facing custody pending deportation (“Abschiebehaft”).
Hamburg has its own law regarding custody pending deportation (“Abschiebhaftvollzugsgesetz”).
